Next year 2018 marks 700 years of the Haddington Charter.
The Charter was granted by Robert the Bruce giving the town a right to hold a market and to be defended by the king if attacked.
East Lothian Council through the Archive Office in the John Gray Centre are marking the occasion with a year long programme of events celebrating Haddington and its history.
Plans are underway for an outdoor lighting extravaganza, an archaeology dig, storytelling and illustration sessions for schools and the crowning event – a medieval fair in the town centre.
However, what will really make this a year to remember is the involvement of community groups. We would love to have an events programme that spans the whole year and really creates a buzz about the town.
We are keen to hear how community groups and organisations would like to be involved. We would really love to see as many groups here as possible.
N.B. Groups do not have to be from Haddington and the subject matter does not have to be historic
