¡Hola!

The Spanish Conversation Group has been running for many years through the East Lothian U3A, even appearing on Zoom during the pandemic. But we’re back to normal now!

It currently has 7 members and is aimed at East Lothian residents (currently from Dunbar to Humbie) who can speak Spanish to a moderate (probably Intermediate) level; most would not describe themselves as fluent, but can get by. People who attend are basically practising Spanish to keep it up or for gentle improvement. They often did it at school or took classes years, or decades, ago. Some have family from a Spanish-speaking country; “official” Spanish and American Spanish are both used and perfectly acceptable. Men and women are welcome.

We’re an informal, friendly group and meet at the home of a member (we take turns) fortnightly in the Autumn, Spring and early Summer. (Tuesdays between 2 and 4pm). We provide tea/ coffee and biscuits – but no tiresome home baking! Typically there’ll be 4 – 5 people present. Many of the topics are suggested by members; each member talks briefly about the topic and then the others discuss with them and each other. This cycles round each member present. No actual teaching, but we do pick up vocabulary from each other as we go along. To give you an idea, read last year’s topics below. Suggestions for Autumn 24 will be posted shortly – but bear in mind that they may change after the planning meeting on September 17th

We welcome new members; if you’re interested, just contact the Group Leader, John Revuelta. You can be fluent, or more moderate, as described above. Not suitable for complete beginners.

¡Hasta luego!
